MPP23 – TBS Panelised Wall System (Toorak Rd, Melbourne) – Jul 2020
Our ‘cousins’ Timber Building Systems (TBS) were challenged with the task of installing 2 luxury apartments on the rooftop of an existing shopping arcade right in the heart of the South Yarra shopping precinct. This project certainly presented some challenges, with no lay-up area, no time and a small footprint for the crane, but the TBS team managed to complete it in only 2.5 days. The developer has now fully realised the value of the air space above the property, therefore dramatically increasing the value of the investment without buying any more land.

MPP21 – Baubuche Intercultural Screen – Apr 2020
Hot off the press and only completed a week ago, Meyer Timber is proud to have worked with Lipman to supply Baubuche screening for a common area at Macquarie University. The project involved supply of 68 main blades which we 8.4m long, 600mm wide and 80mm thick. To further complicate the build there were 6 different main blade profiles and the maximum length supplied could only be 4m, meaning site lamination was required. Many thanks go out to all involved including Lipman, AKM Projects, Pollmeier, TBS, and Macquarie Uni.

MPP20 – XL Cassette (Flynns Beach holiday Villas) – Mar 2020
If some pre-fabrication is good, then more is better! The Meyer Timber Prefab team along with Eastland Frame and Truss continues to push the limits with a super-sized cassette for the Flynns Beach Holiday Villa project. Measuring in at 12.6m Long x 3.8m Wide the jumbo cassette completed the entire ground floor in a 10 min crane lift. A collective sigh of relief was heard across Port Macquarie as the panel dropped smoothly into place.

MPP19 – Portal Upgrade (Goulburn Aquatic Centre) – Feb 2020
It was a case of Meyer engineers coming to the fore, when others turned their backs, to help the community in Goulburn to re-build their popular aquatic centre in quick time. Our involvement, in both design and supply, also ensured that timber continued to play a part in the upgrade of 18m glulam portal frames that failed during heavy snow fall in mid-2019. The design was carried out by Meyer engineers with peer review from Adam Hugill, a local consulting engineer.

MPP18 – Staircase Cassettes (Zac Homes) – Jan 2020
Our pre-fabrication team in NSW has now begun offering pre-fabricated or flat pack stairs – taking them to the next level (pun intended). This can be done as a kit form or fully assembled and is of huge benefit to builders as it provides safe access to the first floor as soon as the floor is in place.

MPP17 – Qikpanel Sub-floor Cassettes (Blackburn VIC) – Nov 2019
The Qikpanel floor systems are an excellent solution when floor depth is a premium, hence ideal for subfloors when competing with concrete slabs. The project highlighted here (click on picture for details) is an extension to an existing house in suburban Melbourne, that demonstrates Qikpanel’s versatility, quality and speed. The word from the client is “this feels as good as a concrete slab”.

MPP14 – Rafter Cassettes (Port Macquarie, NSW) – May 2019
Just recently, Eastlands Frame & Truss had a plan which included a reasonably sized raked ceiling area using LVL rafters. Partnering with Meyer Timber, they got Tom to detail the roof in cassette form, and the rafters were precision cut on the Hundegger, including birdsmouth and reduction cuts for the overhang. Eastlands F&T then assembled the cassettes, which were installed in only 20 minutes!

MPP12 – Qikpanel Cassettes (Melbourne) – Nov 2018
Over the past couple of months Meyer Timber has been working hard in delivering a Qikpanel floor system to a 64-unit development in Victoria. This involves a patented system using inverted T-joists which are chemically bonded directly to the flooring to create strong but lightweight floor panels. Plumbing and ducting holes have been pre-cut into the panels and shower areas are recessed as well.

MPP11 – Floor Cassettes (Zac Homes) – Jul 2018
Zac Homes took part in a trial of cassette floors for two of their double storey houses. It was done using stressed skin floor cassettes, where the flooring is bonded to the joists and essentially becomes like the top flange of an I-joist. The first job was a steep learning experience for all but the second one saw 6 panels installed in under an hour.

MPP10 – Floor Cassettes (Lismore) – Jun 2018
Eastlands F&T did a job this month in Lismore which involved cassette floors for 6 units. This was detailed by Tom in our Sydney office, cut to length on the Hundegger and delivered to Eastlands yard at Port Macquarie. They manufactured to Toms production drawings, put it on a truck to Lismore and arranged the install. When we got to site there were core filled block walls that were 90mm out of parallel and other issues which cased a couple of initial headaches. But once the installation process started they had 4 units installed with first floor frames craned up as well in under 4 hours. A credit to all involved and the main learning here was to allow a bit more time in future for the whole process.
